Even before host Ryan Seacrest named the ''American Idol'' winner on Wednesday, he announced that the next star to emerge from the show would be… himself. He announced that his syndicated daytime TV show, which he's been developing for a couple months with Twentieth Television (a corporate sibling to ''Idol'' network Fox), would debut in January and had already been picked up by the 22 Fox-owned affiliate stations nationwide. Other stations are expected to pick up the hour-long show for late-afternoon (4 to 7) slots, which means that those who listen to his syndicated afternoon radio show can hear him in stereo.
Seacrest, who will also serve as executive producer, has been cagey about the format of his nontraditional show. Early reports suggested that it would not be the usual deskbound or stroll-among-the-audience talk show, and that it would include person-on-the-street interviews. In his statement Wednesday, Seacrest suggested that it would have both news and performance segments. He said, ''There's a huge audience of entire families across the country that are as hooked on pop culture as I am. The bottom line is that there isn't a daily, live show that satisfies that craving. We're marrying the news magazine and variety show to bring a hybrid of entertainment and information to America, and I can't wait!''
