DEATH

Distinguished British actress Dame Wendy Hiller, 90, of undisclosed causes at her London-area home May 14. In addition to winning an Oscar for her supporting role in 1958's Separate Tables, she was playwright George Bernard Shaw's preferred leading lady, starring in Saint Joan and stage and screen productions of Pygmalion.

RECOVERING

Acting up a Storm, X2 heroine Halle Berry, 36, broke her arm on the Montreal set of thriller Gothika May 14 and was taken to a local hospital. She is expected to be back at work soon.

BIRTH

On May 15 in Manhattan, Brooke Shields, 37, welcomed a Pretty Baby girl, her first child with TV producer husband Chris Henchy, 39.

BANNED

Disappointing the schoolgirl-costumed fans who showed up to be extras, Moscow police blocked Russian group t.A.T.u. (Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova, both 18) from filming in Red Square on May 15. The duo, whose lesbian-friendly image has sparked controversy, was reportedly filming an entry for the Eurovision Song Contest.

ARRESTS

Well, at least his prison cot was still warm. Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, 35, was busted (again) May 17 in Burbank, after police allegedly found illegal drugs in his car during a routine traffic stop. He was released on $10,000 bail May 18 and will be arraigned June 2. A rep for STP declined to comment.... In Pomona, Calif., Adam Rich, 34, who played mop-topped Nicholas on '70s TV series Eight Is Enough, pleaded no contest May 16 to misdemeanor charges from a December DUI arrest in the Los Angeles area.

COURTS

On May 2, The Wedding Planner director Adam Shankman filed a $5 million suit against Jennifer Lopez, 32, claiming he came up with the idea for her adaptation of the opera Carmen.... On May 13, stoner hero Tommy Chong (That '70s Show), 65, (right) pleaded guilty in a Pittsburgh federal court to conspiring to sell drug paraphernalia through his bong and pipe company, Nice Dreams Enterprises. He will be sentenced Sept. 11 and faces a maximum of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Chong says he plans to incorporate the experience into his next movie with longtime comedy partner, Cheech Marin.... In other Chong news, Tommy's son Marcus, 35, who played Tank in The Matrix, filed suit May 16 against Warner Bros. for allegedly reneging on an agreement to recast him in the two sequels.... In NYC May 9, Hollywood Gang Productions filed a $1 million suit against Martin Scorsese, claiming the director reneged on a 1990 deal to adapt Shusaku Endo's novel Silence. The suit demands that Scorsese halt production on The Aviator.

DEPARTURE

After 16 years of packed houses, the musical Les Miserables sang its final tune on May 18. The second-longest-running show on Broadway after Cats, it played 6,684 performances. One last pair of tickets sold for $18,750 on eBay. -- Missy Schwartz and S. Tia Brown

Ex -- American Idol diva Frenchie Davis earned more than cheers for her Broadway debut in Rent on May 16. ''They're going to give me credit,'' says the musical-theater major from Howard University.
