The latest casting twist in ''The Woods'' involves a rookie actress with a celebrated family tree. It's third-generation star Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of Ron Howard and granddaughter of Rance Howard. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she'll take the role that was to have gone to ''Spider-Man''''s Kirsten Dunst, who decamped for a part in the next Cameron Crowe movie.
''The Woods,'' a chiller from writer/director M. Night Shyamalan in the vein of his ''Signs'' and ''The Sixth Sense,'' will tell the story of a small town in 1897 haunted by fearsome creatures living in the surrounding forest. Stage actress Howard will make her film debut in the movie, opposite likely costars Ashton Kutcher and ''Signs''' Joaquin Phoenix, who are in talks to join the cast.
