Berg's cautionary tale of a failing marriage follows Frank Griffin, a suburban Chicago businessman whose comfy life unravels when his wife, Ellen, reveals she's having an affair. His struggle to reconcile with her teaches nothing more than the age-old relationship maxims that love is work and communication is key. But the Oprah-approved author's finely tuned characterizations of baffled Frank and socially inept Ellen are ultimately devastating -- as well as edifying in a Dr. Phil sort of way.
