Diva-va-voom

VH1's goddesses and monsters live up to their title.

Divas hog the spotlight, defy fashion convention, and engage in sweeping physical gestures for no apparent reason. That's why we love them. After the ample display of all three traits on VH1's bombastic Divas Duets, it's time to bestow our own special honors:

The Judy Garland Memorial to Whitney Houston (right), for dragging family (Bobby Brown) on stage and taking a far too dramatic bow after her far too scratchy rendition of ''Try It on My Own.''

The Michelle Branch to Chaka Khan, for dressing like one of those apple-throwing trees from The Wizard of Oz.

The Tina Turner Trophy to Beyonce Knowles, for shaking her bonbon and rescuing her ''Proud Mary'' with dance-averse Jewel.

The Sharon Stone Medal of Valor, sponsored by Gap to Shania Twain, for an unheralded act of sartorial sacrifice and bravery: wearing an iron-transfer T-shirt.

Prizes may be claimed at EW's offices. All awards nontransferable (especially to personal assistants).
