Where’s the National Enquirer when you need them? Last month actress Kate Winslet (''Titanic'') quietly wed ''Road to Perdition'' director Sam Mendes while the couple were vacationing in the West Indies, but news of the nuptials was only released by the newlywed’s spokesperson earlier today.
The wedding may have been too small for tabloid reporters to crash, however: Just three friends and Winslet’s 2 1/2-year-old daughter from her first marriage were present at the ceremony.
This is the first wedding for Mendes, 37, and the second for Winslet. The pair began dating shortly after Winslet divorced assistant director Jim Threapleton two years ago and made their first public appearance as a couple at the 2001 premiere of Winslet’s film ''Iris.''
Despite a 10-year age difference (Winslet is 27), the happy couple can always bond over their Oscar memories: Winslet has been nominated three times (as lead actress for ''Titanic'' and supporting actress for ''Iris'' and ''Sense and Sensibility''), while Mendes won Best Director in 2000 for ''American Beauty.''
