Lady Chatterley (2003)

Details Release Date: Jun 24, 2003; DVD Release Date: Jun 24, 2003; With: Sean Bean and Joely Richardson

Even though it's a BBC production, Ken Russell's adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's randy classic is more Danielle Steel than high-culture showpiece. Richardson flawlessly portrays a sexually repressed but doting wife who, encouraged by her paralyzed husband, finds a lover to bear an heir. Of course, no one expects the noblewoman to fall for the studly gamekeeper (Bean). If only more vintage prose could be so simply translated into such a soap-opera-style guilty pleasure. EXTRAS Cinema geeks may want to catch Russell's candid interview for the few juicy tidbits it offers, but the rest -- like D.H. Lawrence's bio -- is a total snore.
