If you build the altar, he will come. On Thursday, Kevin Costner announced his engagement to Christine Baumgartner, his girlfriend of four years. Costner, whose next acting/directing effort, the Western ''Open Range,'' is due in August, did not say when or where he and Baumgartner would tie the knot. It'll be the second marriage for Costner, 48, and the first for 29-year-old Baumgartner.
Costner and his first wife, Cindy, divorced in 1994 after 16 years of marriage and three children. (The settlement cost Costner a reported $80 million). In 1996, he fathered a son, Liam, by socialite Bridget Rooney.
Baumgartner, a model and handbag designer, has a lot in common with her fiancé. They're both alumni of California State University, Fullerton, as well as golf enthusiasts. She met the ''Tin Cup'' star on the links four years ago, and except for a brief split last summer, they've been together ever since.
