'CHARLIE' HORSE

What the halo happened? Though Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle looked like a can't-miss blockbuster, the film's tepid $37.6 million opening -- way off the $55 -- 60 million that some had predicted -- will have Sony wondering what went wrong for weeks to come. (The chief suspect: the indifference of male moviegoers.) Also licking its wounds: Universal, which saw its hopes for a Hulk franchise disappear when the film's second-week grosses dropped an all-too-credible 70 percent. At least one studio was smiling: Fox Searchlight's low-budget, no-stars Brit import 28 Days Later stunned industry watchers with a bloody good fourth-place finish on just 1,260 screens.
