Despite a 17-month engagement, Dawson was not leery of getting married. James Van Der Beek tied the knot on Saturday with his girlfriend of more than three years, actress Heather McComb, his publicist announced on Monday. The ''Dawson's Creek'' star and his bride were wed at an unspecified Malibu location, with some 120 guests in attendance. It's the first marriage for the actors, both 26.
McComb, best known as Julia's roommate Maggie on ''Party of Five,'' wore Vera Wang, while Van Der Beek wore Armani, the Associated Press reports. According to E! Online, they exchanged vows under an archway decorated with jasmine, honeysuckle, and lilac roses. The groom's uncle, a newly licensed minister, officiated. Van Der Beek's brother, Jared, served as best man. McComb's sister, Jennifer (an actress herself, who introduced the couple after she guest-starred on ''Dawson's Creek''), was the maid of honor.
Guests included several ''Dawson's'' actors -- including costar Michelle Williams (Jen) and supporting players Meredith Monroe (Andie), Busy Philipps (Audrey), Hal Oszan (Todd), and Mary-Margaret Humes (Dawson's mom) -- as well as actors Soleil Moon Frye, Teri Polo, Essence Atkins, and Eric Balfour. The guests dined on filet mignon, fries, and mint-chip ice cream cones at the reception, held under a white organza tent.
Before leaving for a honeymoon at an undisclosed location, Van Der Beek and McComb cut into the his-and-hers wedding cakes -- a triple-berry cake requested by the bride and a toffee-fudge cake for the groom. Let's hope that their inability to agree on a wedding cake doesn't mean that their marriage is already up a creek.
