Benicio Del Toro's long-planned biopic of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara is finally getting closer to the screen. Reclusive director Terrence Malick is now attached to the project, according to the Hollywood Reporter. If Malick signs on, it'll be his first movie since 1998's ''The Thin Red Line'' (which, in turn, was his first movie since 1978's ''Days of Heaven''). Back in 2001, Steven Soderbergh was announced as a potential director for ''Che,'' but he's now going to be a producer on the project, the Hollywood Reporter reports.
Del Toro, who won an Oscar for ''Traffic,'' appeared earlier this year in the action flop ''The Hunted,'' which co-starred Tommy Lee Jones. He's next set to star with Sean Penn and Naomi Watts in ''21 Grams,'' a story of three strangers whose lives intertwine, as directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu (''Amores Perros''). ''Che,'' meanwhile, has no release date, and is not yet attached to a studio.
