The Goon is old-school cool -- a great gurgling gumbo of EC Comics horror, Monty Python wit, and 1930s pulp. Equal parts Cagney and Brando, The Hulk and the Spirit, Eric Powell's square-jawed hero is a tough-guy thug with a heart of flinty gold. The Mob-muscle thing is a masquerade; he's all about keeping the folks on Lonely Street safe from killer squids, hillbilly freaks, and zombie priests. The Goon, in short, is good, and Powell's artwork will leave you drooling like an undead ghoul at a brain buffet.
