The Artist in the Ambulance (2003)

Details Release Date: Aug 12, 2003; Lead Performance: Thrice

It's never easy to tell whether mathematically adept hard-rockers like the Orange County-bred boys in Thrice incorporate shifting time signatures to enhance their otherwise straightforward punk-derived thrash or because they're bored. Thankfully, Thrice are endowed with an unerring (if somewhat hackneyed) melodic sense that tempers their prog-metal tendencies. So whether or not you can tell 7/4 time from the Tennessee waltz, you'll find enough quality emo-core on the band's major-label debut to keep your head and heart banging.
