'Bad Boys' Makes Good

Hear that? No, not the gunshots. We mean the cackling of producer Jerry Bruckheimer, whose $46.5 million-grossing Bad Boys II was his first top opener since, well, last week's Pirates of the Caribbean (which bucked this year's nasty trend of post-premiere apathy, dropping only 27 percent) -- a very rare double play for a producer. Boys II is now the summer's third R-rated No. 1 debut (after The Matrix Reloaded and T3), and it's en route to blow away the $65.8 million total earned by Bad Boys in 1995. Meanwhile, spy send-up Johnny English -- a hit overseas -- took in a bloody okay $9.1 million, while teen drama How to Deal had a totally random eighth-place finish.
