The Nashville Star turns in a surprisingly solid CD, considering how little time has passed since his May crowning. His ''Help Pour Out the Rain (Lacey's Song)'' may be treacly, but the album, deftly produced by Clint Black, moves on to more muscular fare from veteran songwriters such as Merle Haggard and Fred Knobloch. Still, it's the Arkansas native's warm, commanding voice -- reminiscent of a young Waylon Jennings -- that propelled this debut to No. 1.
