EW's GRADE
B+

Details Release Date: Jul 01, 2003; Lead Performance: Cafe Tacuba

These proud post-modernists from Mexico may ransack the past four decades of rock and pop for inspiration, but they've carved out a beguiling niche where their Beatle-ish melodicism and occasional full-bore assault get leavened by new-wave mirth. Their fifth album is all over the place, but agreeably so, with sharp songwriting that never rules out a catchy chorus and stylish production that rejects retro haze.
