LEGACY
French director Jacques Deray, 74, a master of crime movies and Hitchcockian thrillers, died Aug. 9 at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt, from cancer. In a career that spanned four decades, Deray made more than 30 films, 10 of which starred Alain Delon, including the 1969 psychological chiller La Piscine (The Swimming Pool) and the 1970 crime drama Borsalino. -- SB
