WHY WE CAN'T WAIT A flag-waving epic about American soldiers, led by a gung-ho Texan, hunkering down for a long fight against foreign troops? Well, yeah, that sounds pretty relevant. Plus, we want to see how Billy Bob Thornton (as Davy Crockett) looks in a coonskin cap.
SOURCE MATERIAL Don't you remember?
PLOT POINTS Unlike John Wayne's jingoistic 1960 version, this retelling of the 1836 San Antonio siege promises a historically faithful, warts-and-all portrayal of the Lone Star heroes, including Crockett, Sam Houston (Dennis Quaid), William Travis (Patrick Wilson), and Jim Bowie (Jason Patric), as well as Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna (Emilio Echevarria).
BURNING QUESTION Director John Lee Hancock hit it out of the park with last year's modest ''The Rookie,'' his first at-bat. But can he handle a $90 million war epic?
COME FOR That last stand at the Alamo
STAY FOR The climactic battle of San Jacinto
