Bobby Brown was in the middle of a romantic dinner with wife Whitney Houston at an Atlanta-area restaurant when police arrested him on a month-old warrant for violating his probation, the Associated Press reports. According to MTV News, a DeKalb County, Georgia judge issued the warrant July 17, after ruling that the singer had failed to fulfill the conditions of his probation stemming from a1996 drunk driving arrest. However, county sheriffs told MTV last week that they had been unable to locate Brown, even at the nearby home he shares with Houston.
On Friday, however, an anonymous tipster phoned authorities to tell them that Brown was dining at the Atlantic Seafood Co. in Alpharetta, Ga. As of Saturday evening, the 33-year-old was still being held in the county jail, AP reports.
In 1996, Brown was cited for driving under the influence, speeding, failing to maintain a lane, and having no proof of insurance. Brown failed to show for his 1997 court date, and the case fell through the cracks until another Brown arrest last November in Atlanta, on charges of marijuana possession, speeding, and having no driver's license or proof of insurance. At that time, the 1996 warrant was rediscovered, leading to a sentence earlier this year of probation, requiring the singer's participation in a risk-reduction program, completion of 240 hours of community service, six months of twice-weekly Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and an order to submit to random alcohol and drug screenings, the sheriff's office told MTV. Brown's apparent failure to meet those requirements could result in additional jail time. Representatives for Brown have not commented on this weekend's arrest.
