When Bobby Brown was arrested on an outstanding warrant Friday night, in the middle of a romantic restaurant meal with Whitney Houston, police almost arrested her too, for disorderly conduct. At the Atlantic Seafood Co. in the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta, Ga., the diva ''shook her finger in the face of the commanding officer and called him a bitch,'' Alpharetta Police Sgt. Chris Lagerbloom told the New York Daily News. ''No one could figure out why, because he's a guy. But she repeated it several times.'' He told the Associated Press, ''She was outwardly frustrated. She was upset. She was yelling and screaming.''
The cops chose not to take her downtown as well, but Lagerbloom said, ''To say she was calm about it would be a misstatement.'' Brown, however, ''was as calm and cordial and professional as you could be,'' the officer said.
Brown was picked up on a warrant that had been issued by the DeKalb County Court in July for his alleged failure to fulfill the terms of his probation (including community service and random drug testing) on a long-ago drunk driving charge. In court Wednesday, Brown's lawyer said the singer had performed community service out of state, but had not checked in with his probation officer because a recent elbow injury had left him bedridden, AP reports. (Also, Brown was mourning the recent deaths of seven family members, the lawyer said.) The judge ordered Brown to undergo another drug assessment and sentenced him to 14 days in jail, including the five he'd already served, to be followed by 60 days of house arrest.
