We were canceled, then we were picked up for midseason, then we were told we were going to be on in the fall,'' says creator Dave Hackel. ''So everybody here has track shoes on.'' Resuscitated to take over a slot previously reserved for Robert Klein's now-postponed sitcom The Stones, the series picks up with Bronx doctor Becker (Ted Danson) contemplating a serious commitment to Chris (Nancy Travis). ''Becker has never been in a relationship for which he would even consider changing anything about himself. We've had him in very temporary, convenient, booty-call-type relationships,'' says Hackel. ''He's scared to death because he's been divorced twice and he doesn't think he's any good at it. And he isn't -- he sucks.'' You said it, not us. (Oct. 8)
