What's the story behind the new category, Outstanding Reality/ Competition Program?Technically, yes, it is a brand-new category, although in '01 and '02 a prize was given for Non-Fiction Program (Reality). But the Academy found that competitive reality shows like ''American Idol'' and ''Survivor'' weren't quite fitting in that category (''Survivor'' won a ''special class program'' Emmy in '01), hence the new classification. In addition, the old category Non-Fiction Series (Informational) has been replaced by Non-Fiction Series (Traditional) and Non-Fiction Program (Alternative). The difference? Traditional series (nominees include ''The E! True Hollywood Story'' and ''Biography'') follow a fly-on-the-wall documentary approach, while the alternative category (''The Osbournes,'' ''Trading Spaces'') allows filmmakers to manipulate or dictate what happens on the show.
