Twang (etc.) for Your Buck

COUNTRY

The American military's ''shock and awe'' campaign may not have been as instantly climactic as promised, but Toby Keith's Shock'n Y'all could well live up to its name by having one of the biggest debut sales weeks of the fall. Its first single, ''I Love This Bar,'' is already the year's fastest-rising country hit (11/4). * On the distaff side, Martina McBride's Martina should do slightly less shocking but still awesome business, now that country radio has decreed that she -- not Faith, Shania, or Natalie -- is the format's queen (9/30). * In addition to an already-released Patsy Cline tribute album, all-star fetes for the Louvin Brothers (9/30) and Dolly Parton (10/14) are also slated. Fun fact: Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, and Parton herself appear on both these salutes. ALSO DUE New CDs from Gary Allan (9/30) and Merle Haggard (10/14); plus Robert Earl Keen's seriocomic Farm Fresh Onions (10/7); highly anticipated debuts from Josh Turner and Toby Keith collaborator Scotty Emerick (10/14); a LeAnn Rimes greatest-hits collection with two new tracks (11/11); TV diva Reba McEntire's first album in four years, Room to Breathe (11/18); Trace Adkins' late entry, Comin' On Strong (12/2); and a boxed set of highlights and outtakes from the late Johnny Cash's Rick Rubinesque American Recordings albums (11/11).

JAZZ

Diana Krall's next one may have been pushed back to 2004, but there's still some glamour on jazz's fall-release schedule. Or some Glamoured, anyway -- that's the title of the new one from chanteuse Cassandra Wilson, which includes covers of Bob Dylan's ''Lay Lady Lay'' and Sting's ''Fragile,'' among others (10/7). * It's Me, and she means it: Abbey Lincoln wrote or cowrote six tracks for her new album, in addition to recording with an orchestra for the first time (10/14). ALSO DUE Pat Martino and Dave Koz (10/7); David Benoit, Will Downing, and John McLaughlin (10/14); and Gardenias for Lady Day, picked by James Carter
