L2T ON THE ROAD: PITTSBURGH
PAUL'S COMPACT DISCS In 1993, Jim's Records, a Steel City staple since 1977, got a new name when Paul Olszewski, a then-27-year-old recent college grad, decided to make it his own. With no business experience and a passion for eclectic indie music, Olszewski has gotten by just selling what he likes. Right now he digs the New Pornographers, who hold the No. 6 spot on the shop's current best-seller list, and he takes pride in the fact that he runs a store where ''a Television reissue [see the No. 10 slot] is more popular than any Britney Spears album.'' Impressive -- just don't turn on the radio and kill the buzz, man. -- KR
