All About

Cold Case

We know Rome wasn't built in a day. But you don't have to be a toga-wearing scholar to figure out what rules and what reeks on fall TV so far.

WINNERS

Hope & Faith (ABC, 10.8 million) In prime time, Kelly Ripa found 7 million more fans, bigger breasts, and the net's first Friday-night hit since ''Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.''

Joan of Arcadia (CBS, 13 million) Seems God is more powerful than lawyers: The do-gooder drama beat much-hyped ''Miss Match.''

Eve (UPN, 4.4 million) The rapper may be unlucky in love in this comedy -- but she's damn lucky for UPN, creating a rare hit for the No. 6 net.

Cold Case (CBS, 14.9 million) Part ''Murder, She Wrote,'' part ''CSI,'' Jerry Bruckheimer's latest was this season's sure thing.

LOSERS

Luis (Fox, 3.8 million) Lesson learned: Just because Guzman is a good second banana on the big screen doesn't mean he can hold his own on the small one.

One Tree Hill (WB, 2.9 million) Based in North Carolina, this drama has everything ''Dawson's Creek'' had -- except compelling leads, relatable story lines, and Katie Holmes!

Happy Family (NBC, 10.7 million) If you really want to see a funny sitcom starring John Larroquette, stick with ''Night Court'' reruns.

Threat Matrix (ABC, 7.1 million) Desperate ABC thought viewers would watch anything with ''Matrix'' in its title. Turns out they won't.
