These days, $6 million wouldn't even cover a third of Jim Carrey's fee. Nonetheless, Variety reports that the comic who displayed godlike powers in ''Bruce Almighty'' has been tapped to star as the bionic-powered hero of ''The Six Million Dollar Man.'' Yes, it'll be a parodic take on the classic '70s sci-fi/action series, brought to you by ''Old School'' director Todd Phillips, who's doing a similarly tongue-in-cheek update of ''Starsky and Hutch'' with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.
Phillips and writing partner Scot Armstrong are going back to the source of the ABC show, Martin Caidin's novel ''Cyborg.'' They hope to shoot the film in fall 2004.
Lee Majors' red tracksuit isn't the only '70s costume Carrey is stepping into. Before he goes bionic, he'll play the George Segal role in a remake of the bankrobbing-yuppies comedy ''Fun With Dick and Jane,'' with Carrey's ''Mask'' costar Cameron Diaz playing opposite him in the Jane Fonda role.
