TUESDAY

OCTOBER 28

8-8:30PM It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (ABC, TV-G) Who's the bigger dork: the cartoon kid who waits all night for the Great Pumpkin, or the real kid (let's call him Dalton) who does it because he saw it on TV?

8-8:30PM Whoopi (NBC, TV-14) I recently challenged readers to sit through an episode of Whoopi. Now John Buckler of Lansing, Mich., complains the experiment has ruined his life. To which I say: Misery loves company. And right now, John, I love you. Passionately. (Once again: heterosexual!)

SERIES DEBUT 10:30-11PM Rich Girls (MTV, TV-PG) Two rich teens came to MTV with the brilliant idea of letting cameras follow them around to show what spoiled brats they are. Not surprisingly, the channel was more than happy to oblige.

SEASON PREMIERE 9-10PM 24 (Fox, TV-14-V) When we last left President David Palmer, his hand was melting off. Yet now, apparently, he's fine! (At least that's what he says.) The real-time drama returns for its third season, and now it is three years later, and drug lords are threatening to unleash a deadly virus. But not all of the news is bad. At least no characters are suffering from amnesia or being stalked by cougars -- yet. If the show can avoid such traps (bear or otherwise), we could be in for a delightfully wild ride. The pacing is typically tight, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland, left) is more messed up than ever, and the only thing threatening Kim is a scary new haircut. B+
