Shakira is named UNICEF goodwill ambassador. The 26-year-old singer is the youngest person and first Colombian named to the post

Move over, Angelina Jolie; step aside, Geri Halliwell. There's a new belly-baring goodwill ambassador at the United Nations. It's Shakira, who's wriggled her way into a post as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, the organization announced Friday. The 26-year-old singer is the youngest person and first Colombian the children's agency has named to the post.

''UNICEF has done tremendous work in my home nation,'' she said in a statement, ''and I have seen firsthand the difference UNICEF makes. It's rewarding to know that I join such a great list of stars supporting UNICEF, and can personally contribute to improving the lives and futures of children.'' She follows such UNICEF luminaries as Danny Kaye, Audrey Hepburn, Harry Belafonte, Roger Moore, Vanessa Redgrave, Jessica Lange, and Mia Farrow.
