Disney Concert Hall

1. The $274 million Walt Disney Concert Hall opened in Los Angeles Oct. 23 with three galas, including a film-music program with composer John Williams, whose world-premiere piece was based on the melody he wrote for the hall's lobby chimes.

2. Architect and avid sailor Frank Gehry modeled the steel-and-glass building on boat designs, much like his planned NYC headquarters for Barry Diller's IAC/InterActiveCorp, as well as his Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.
