Britney SpearsIt hasn't just been gypsies, tramps, and thieves scooping up tickets to Cher's farewell tour. The bethonged and bemeshed superstar's farewell tour, which ends today in Toronto, has grossed a whopping $145 million.
Apparently it's hard to give up such impressive ticket sales. The tour, which was originally slated to end in January, was pushed to June, then August, and most recently October. And though this may be the end of her epic road trip, she still has concert dates on her schedule: She'll be playing the Las Vegas MGM Grand on January 2 and 3.
Cher's long goodbye (the tour featured 200 concerts and played to 2.2 million fans) has left other divas in the dust, including Tina Turner (who made $108 million with her 2000 tour), Madonna ($74 million in 2001), Britney Spears ($43.7 million in 2002), and Janet Jackson ($41 million in 2001). Last year, Cher finished just behind Paul McCartney at the ticket office.
If she truly is slipping into semi-retirement, Cher's clearly going out at a high point. Her greatest hits album, ''The Very Best of Cher,'' has spent 30 weeks on the Billboard charts, and her Emmy-winning NBC special was watched by 17 million in April.
For fans that can't bring themselves to believe in a life after Cher, never fear: She costars in the Farrelly Brothers' conjoined twins comedy ''Stuck on You'' with Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear, which opens Dec. 12.
