In a Halloween weekend in which few moviegoers haunted the multiplex, ''Scary Movie 3'' remained on top for a second week, the first movie to rule the box office for two consecutive weeks since the scary-and-not-funny ''Freddy vs. Jason'' in August. According to studio estimates, the horror spoof scared up another $21.1 million, for a 10-day total of $78.6 million, exceeding the entire $71.3 million run of ''Scary Movie 2.'' (The first ''SM'' grossed $157 million.)

The movie's only new challenger was Disney's ''Brother Bear,'' which conceded Friday to trick-or-treating and opened on Saturday. The cartoon pawed an estimated $18.5 million in receipts to open in second place, but it was first on a per-screen basis, averaging $6,119 per venue to ''Scary Movie 3'''s $6,020.

Apparently, a lot of potential moviegoers were trick-or-treating on Oct. 31, as the top 12 movies drew just $91.9 million, down 9 percent from the same weekend last year. Those who were up for a real scare made ''The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'' the No. 3 movie, with a gross of $10.9 million in its third week. At No. 4, uplifiting drama ''Radio'' continued to enjoy a strong reception, with it's $10.2 million gross sliding just 23 percent from its opening last weekend. Not too much of ''Runaway Jury'''s audience ran away either. It slipped just 19 percent to finish at No. 5 with a $6.9 million take.
