Box Office

'Bear' Necessities

As any fan of Roger Maris will tell you, the asterisk makes an occasional appearance in the record books. Given that precedent, we hereby slap one on ''Scary Movie 3'''s repeat win* at the box office last weekend. While Dimension's horror spoof added another $20 million to its hefty haul, certainly it would have come in second had ''Brother Bear'' not opened on Saturday (seems Disney felt kids wouldn't be going to the movies on Friday, which happened to be Halloween). As it turned out, ''Bear'' earned $19.4 million in just two days, an impressive take given that traditional animation has virtually been abandoned by audiences after recent disasters like ''Treasure Planet'' and ''Sinbad.''
