On the hit reality show ''Newlyweds,'' which details his marriage to spoiled, disturbingly naive pop princess Jessica Simpson, ex-98 Degrees member Lachey comes off as the paragon of practicality simply by watching his spending and cleaning up after himself. So it's surprising that his solo debut is ostentatious to a fault, with gaudy synth flourishes, multiple hooks per song where one might suffice, and pseudo-James Brown horns that pummel the singer's rather flatly recorded vocals. Lachey could stand to pinch a few more pennies from his production budget and provide Wifey with that tuna -- or is it chicken? -- she loves so much.
