Remember Britney Spears' 2001 novel ''A Mother's Gift''? Maybe not, but ABC Family does. The network is adapting the book, cowritten with Britney's mom Lynne, as a TV movie, and Spears is close to signing on as an executive producer, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Lynne Spears is already signed on as an exec producer for the project, which is set to air in April, according to the trade paper.

Britney hasn't decided yet whether she would appear in the film, which would follow the book's story of a small-town teen singer who gets a scholarship to a fancy music school. Production is set to begin in Toronto in early 2004. Publisher's Weekly called  the book ''slight'' and ''treacly,'' labeling it a ''didactic melodrama.'' In other words, it should be a great TV movie.
