THE DAYS OF DOGS AND ROSES Love arrives at court

Calling the charges against her ''retarded,'' Courtney Love pleaded not guilty Wednesday to two felony counts of drug possession, according to wire service reports. Love was charged with illegally possessing two painkillers -- oxycodone and hydrocodone -- after suffering an overdose Oct. 3. Earlier that day, she had allegedly been caught breaking windows outside her ex-boyfriend's house. ''I didn't do anything,'' Love told reporters after the hearing, according to Reuters. ''Someone left a pill at my house.''

Wearing a loose purple t-shirt, Love came to court carrying a bouquet of roses and her pet beagle, Molly, the Associated Press reported. In the hearing, Judge Elden Fox ordered Love to undergo an assessment to determine whether she's eligible for a drug diversion program that would spare her jail time. Love's next hearing in the case is Dec. 11; during the hearing, she complained potential court dates would interfere with a video shoot and the Academy Awards.

After the hearing, Love offered some advice for fans, according to Reuters: ''Don't go out with married men, and keep your name on the lease.'' She also revealed a ''secret,'' AP reported: ''Don't tell. It's a big secret I used to use drugs.''
