Q Elf may be a Christmas fantasy flick, but it's filled with real-life products. So why does Will Ferrell's North Pole naif find himself pulling off a fake Santa's beard in NYC's Gimbel's, a department store that's been closed for more than a decade?
A ''Macy's was very receptive. We could have gotten a float in the parade,'' says director Jon Favreau, who wound up paying homage to Miracle on 34th Street with the Gimbel's nod. ''But Macy's will not do anything that depicts their Santa Claus as anything but real. They have the real Santa Claus. So I don't know how you argue with that.''
