Grace Note

Which of today's young stars do you think will have a successful adult career like that of Tom Hanks? -- Katie Hayes

I'm taking your example at your word, Katie. Hanks was a ''Bosom Buddies'' sitcom player who made lousy movies before he made great ones, so that narrows the field to TV actors with crossover potential. The tricky part, then, is thinking young, since it's easier to applaud a proven star like George Clooney than to back green talent. My pick: Topher Grace. He was compelling in ''Traffic,'' charmingly self-mocking in ''Ocean's Eleven,'' and he's coming up in Mona Lisa Smile. Meanwhile, he wisely keeps his day job opposite that other guy, Ashton something-or-other, on ''That '70s Show.''
