The Deal Report

MOVIES Salma Hayek will join fellow walking aphrodisiac Colin Farrell in Robert Towne's Depression-set ''Ask the Dust,'' about a steamy Italian-American writer wooed by a saucy Mexican, shooting next year.... Renaissance man Robert Rodriguez (''Spy Kids'') joins the RZA in creating original music for ''Kill Bill -- Vol. 2,'' out Feb. 20.... Erstwhile St. Nick Tim Allen will revisit the Yuletide in a comedy adaptation of John Grisham's best-seller ''Skipping Christmas,'' out next holiday season.

TELEVISION No longer Lil', just plain Bow Wow stars in a midseason sitcom pilot for The WB, about a talented musician on scholarship at a snobby prep school. With lil' Daniel Benzali (''Murder One'') as the authority figure.... Lil' Elisabeth Filarski Hasselbeck, ''Survivor 2'' cutie-pie and wife of Washington Redskins QB Tim Hasselbeck, will warm the seat long ago vacated by ''The View'''s Lisa Ling.... Look for lil' Jennifer Love Hewitt to have the time of her life in a planned sitcom vehicle for Touchstone TV.... ''Just Shoot Me'' castoff lil' David Spade returns to prime time with a multi-episode stint as a relative on ''8 Simple Rules''.... Since you can't really cuss on TV, we're guessing USA Network's miniseries based on lil' Al Pacino's profane 1983 Miami drug saga, ''Scarface,'' now in development, will have no dialogue.

MUSIC George Michael has faith in Sony Music UK, where he's got a new worldwide record contract and an album, ''Patience,'' due in early 2004. You'll recall the ex-Wham!ster waged one heckuva legal battle to leave Sony in the 1990s.

BOOKS Producer Scott Rudin has optioned ''Guests of the Ayatollah,'' an as-yet-unwritten tale of the '79-'81 Iran hostage crisis by ''Black Hawk Down'' author Mark Bowden.
