Most groundbreaking bands that sell well create a market for dumbed-down versions of themselves. We've had Alice in Chains paving the way for Staind, Radiohead leaving a wake for Coldplay, and, most recently, Incubus setting the stage for California's Hoobastank. The latter axed Incubus' arty, world-beat elements to concentrate on that group's more conventional metal and melodic aspects. On Hoobastank's second album, they've once again come up with decent enough radio fodder. But ultimately, they're still just a crummy Hydrox answer to Incubus' creamy Oreo.
