Does the world need a Goonies sequel? Quite a few people seem to think it's time to dust off the Truffle Shuffle for the next chapter of the 1985 kids-seek-booty (of the pirate variety) flick.
''The time is right only because the time is right,'' says director Richard Donner, who confirms that he and Steven Spielberg have a Goonies part deux story idea (original cast + new teens + peril) and screenwriters Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty (X2) in mind. Still missing? A green light from Warner Bros.
Fortunately, Goonies -- namely Corey Feldman (a.k.a. Mouth) -- never say die. The actor has launched a petition on his eponymous website in order to show the studio the ''power,'' ''magnitude,'' and ''stretch'' of Goonies fandom -- with, he's hoping, 100,000 signatures.
In the meantime, Feldman is ready to solidify his schedule. ''Will it be the Bikini Bandits sequel or the Goonies sequel?'' he asks. ''That is the question.''
