If you were looking for someone to play Batman's love interest, you might be inclined to choose an actress who also has experience scaling buildings. Variety reports that the makers of the upcoming ''Batman'' movie want Katie Holmes, who so often climbed the wall of Dawson's house and crawled through his window on ''Dawson's Creek.'' She'd play a character named Rachel, opposite Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader.
Variety reports that Holmes has been offered the role, subject to a screen test that director Christopher Nolan (''Memento,'' ''Insomnia'') would conduct with Bale; she's the only actress, among all those Nolan considered, who has been asked to do a screen test.
Holmes, who'll be seen on screen next spring as the star of ''First Daughter,'' would join a cast that includes Bale and Michael Caine, who's negotiating to play Alfred, Bruce Wayne's loyal butler and keeper of his secret identity. The film is expected to shoot early next year for a 2005 release.
