Jessica Simpson

While the success of MTV's ''Newlyweds'' has made Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey bigger stars than ever, it hasn't boosted the modest sales of the couple's 2003 solo albums. Maybe their next musical project, a duet album, will have more chemistry. It'll be the first reunion on disc for the couple since the former 98 Degrees singer sang with her on ''Where You Are,'' from her 1999 album, ''Sweet Kisses.'' ''We're talking about remaking great '70s, '80s hits,'' Simpson told MTV News this week. ''Definitely a romantic album.''

The newlyweds are still carefully choosing the songs for the 2004 release, she said. ''We wouldn't want it to be cheesy. So we'd have to spend a while and pick the right material. We're not going to do 'I Got You Babe,' because that's what people's 'clever ideas' are. 'Oh, you should do Sonny and Cher.' We're just like, 'No, if we're going to do something together, it has to be clever.' We want to remake some stuff and also do original stuff.'' Fans who can't wait to see them perform together can watch them cohost the after-hours portion of ''Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2004'' in the wee hours of Jan. 1.
