DEPARTURES After two seasons of humbling celebs with metal detectors, uninvited ''cousins,'' and fraudulent tax collectors, Ashton Kutcher (left), 25, pulled the plug on his hit MTV series, Punk'd, saying after the Dec. 14 finale, ''We've done our job.... [We] leave the punkin' up to you.''

ARRESTS White Stripes frontman Jack White (ne John Gillis), 28, turned himself in to Detroit police Dec. 23 after allegedly assaulting Von Bondies singer-guitarist Jason Stollsteimer, 25, on Dec. 13. White, who has claimed self-defense, faces a maximum of one year in prison if convicted on the charge.... Also getting in on the barroom-brawl action, rapper Nas (a.k.a. Nasir Jones), 30, turned himself in seven days after he allegedly threw a glass at a fellow barfly during a Dec. 10 scrape at an NYC nightclub. He was charged with assault.

SPLITS On Dec. 10, teenybopper Aaron Carter, 16, announced his intention to seek legal emancipation from his mother/comanager, Jane, alleging mismanagement of funds. Jane (also mom to Backstreet Boy Nick Carter) said in a statement that she is ''confident that the truth will come to light in a court of law.''

COURTS A month after Michael Jackson, 45, surrendered to authorities, Santa Barbara County prosecutors formally charged him with seven counts of lewd conduct with a minor and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent on Dec. 18. The Gloved One, who claims innocence, will be arraigned Jan. 16. If convicted, he could face a maximum of 16 years in the clink.... On Dec. 12, actress Doris Burns filed a fraud and defamation suit against Snoop Dogg (ne Calvin Broadus), 32, and MTV Networks, claiming the shizzolator's Doggy Fizzle Televizzle doctored footage of the pajama-wearing actress to make her look as if she were naked and having sex. Snoop did not return calls.... In another corner of the Dogghouse, Snoop's mom, Beverly Broadus Green, and Maria Arnaud Watkins filed a slander suit against imprisoned hip-hop artist Marion ''Suge'' Knight, 38, for falsely bragging in his lyrics to ''Tha Row (Y'all Hoes)'' that he slept with them. Knight could not be reached for comment.... On Dec. 11, Will & Grace exec producers David Kohan and Max Mutchnick sued NBC for breach of contract, alleging that the Peacock acted in bad faith by conspiring to keep the price of W&G's licensing rights down in order to keep profits within NBC as well as to reduce the producers' profits. NBC plans to fight the allegations.... American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, 26, settled his suit with 205 Flava for an undisclosed amount. The Velvet Teddy Bear had alleged that the hip-hop clothing maker had used his fame to sell its signature jerseys.... It's bad news/good news for Bachelor's Bob Guiney, 32. He reportedly split with Estella Gardinier, 28, but on the plus side, a judge ruled that he could promote his CD 3 Sides. The show's production company claimed marketing the CD ''tarnished the series' goodwill.''
