EW Remembers Ingrid Thulin

Best known for the introspective personae she embodied as part of Ingmar Bergman's regular troupe, Swedish actress Ingrid Thulin, 77, who died of cancer Jan. 7 in Stockholm, was a master of the stricken soul. With films like Wild Strawberries and Cries and Whispers, where, as a sexually pained wife, she pulls off a landmark scene of ecstatic masochism, she was the uncommon performer who changed movies while avoiding popular fame.
