HUMBLE SCRIBE Timberlake will write his memoirs

Justin Timberlake is really getting on in years -- why, on Jan. 31, he'll turn 23! -- so it's no wonder he's decided to write his memoirs. He's been shopping around a proposal to publishers since October, MTV News reports, and has sold the project's U.K. rights to London's Transworld Publishers, a division of Random House. No word yet on the size of his advance (rumored to be in the seven figures), which U.S. publisher might pick up the American rights, but the book is supposed to hit shelves in September. Designing the package will be the same team who designed Madonna's notorious ''Sex'' tome; we hope this doesn't mean the cover will be made out of metal.

Timberlake's ex, 22-year-old Britney Spears, was also rumored to be pitching a memoir, to be called ''On My Own,'' that would tell all about such men in her life as Timberlake, Fred Durst, and husband-for-a-day Jason Allen Alexander. But her publicist tells the New York Daily News that the rumor is ''completely untrue.''

Who knows when Timberlake will actually have time to write his autobiography? One new item on the singer's busy schedule is an upcoming ABC special to commemorate the 45th anniversary of Motown. (The legendary label is actually 46, but it doesn't look a day over 45.) According to MTV News, the special will tape in April for an airing during May sweeps. Of course, Timberlake was never signed to Motown, and he was born a decade after its heyday was over, but he does know how to moonwalk like Michael Jackson, who will probably be a little too busy to attend. Cohosting the special with Timberlake will be genuine Motown performer Lionel Richie -- for you kids, he's Nicole Richie's dad, and he was a guest judge on ''American Idol'' last season.
