The Ratings

The Patriot Act

Almost 90 million viewers caught the Patriots' final-seconds Super Bowl victory over the Panthers on CBS Sunday (1st), making for the event's breast -- sorry, best -- ratings since 90 million tuned in for 1998's Denver -- Green Bay matchup on NBC. The big game outplayed all competing network shows combined, with the night's most successful counterprogramming, ABC's airing of Julia Roberts' romantic comedy Notting Hill (73rd), charming a mere 5.6 million. The postgame Survivor: All-Stars kicked off to an audience of 33.5 million, though it started too late to be considered prime-time. On Monday, Fox's reality comedy My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance (15th) continued to win hearts in week 2 even without an Idol assist, and NBC's The Apprentice (6th) settled into its glitzy new Thursday spot, building on its Will & Grace lead-in by 1.6 million viewers.
