The impending election has clearly inspired this D.C.-based trio, who wave an unabashedly anti-Bush banner on their seventh CD. Unfortunately, Trans Am's New Order -- meets -- Chemical Brothers synth-nostalgia seldom provides a sufficiently scintillating soapbox. Only brooding instrumentals like ''Pretty Close to the Edge'' evoke an emotionally ripe paranoia worthy of their lofty political aspirations.
