In 1973, Harris lost her mentor and duet partner Gram Parsons, but she drew on his earthy country eclecticism and blossomed. On these early records -- remastered and boasting two unreleased tracks each -- her famous, fragile alto imbues songs by the Beatles, Buck Owens, Chuck Berry, and others with timeless grace, while her own ''Boulder to Birmingham'' on ''Sky'' is a smoldering tribute to Parsons. ''Elite Hotel'' and ''Quarter Moon'' especially transcend distinctions between traditional and pop country music, emphasizing emotive integrity and fidelity to the songs.
