Nick and Jessica pitch marital-advice book. Don't worry, they'll have a ghostwriter

''Newlyweds'' stars Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson have been married 16 months -- that's eons in pop-star marriage years (just ask Britney, Brandy, or J. Lo). So it's no wonder they feel qualified to offer marital advice. MTV News reports that the couple is pitching a book called ''Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey's Secrets for a Happy (and Sexy!) Marriage.''

''I know what you're thinking: 'Jessica Simpson, what does she know about books?''' the singer wrote in her book proposal. ''I mean, anyone who has ever seen my show... probably thinks I wouldn't know a book if one fell on my head. But let me let you in on a little secret: I am not as dumb as I look... [and] for those of you who think I can't read or write, know this: I have written in a journal every night for the past 12 years.'' Besides, the couple is bringing in a ghostwriter, Us Weekly editor Lori Majewski. And Simpson has already written one book, ''I Do: Achieving Your Dream Wedding,'' with Katina Z. Jones.

The couple describe the new book as part oral history (with accounts of their courtship and married life from friends, family, and the couple themselves), part advice tome. Lachey wrote in the proposal that he plans to ''speak openly'' about his love life with his virgin bride, ''about our early days of bedded bliss, and about how we became compatible lovers, but only for the purposes of being of service to our readers!''

As for advice, the couple's tips include some that their fellow celebrities would do well to emulate. For example, ''We will never, ever do a film together,'' Simpson wrote. ''Nick and I were thinking the other day how it just never works. I mean, look at Ben and Gwyneth -- 'Bounce' bombed. And Ben and J. Lo. Hello, 'Gigli!' Even Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman couldn't do it with 'Eyes Wide Shut.'''
