Nicole Kidman found herself visiting another cold mountain last week, this one in New Zealand. According to the New Zealand Herald, Kidman arrived on Thursday for what was supposed to be a top secret scouting trip of the Canterbury mountain region, which the paper reported was one of the snow-covered locations for the upcoming first installment of ''The Chronicles of Narnia.'' The one-day trip sparked rumors that Kidman had signed on to star in the potential blockbuster children's fantasy film, though neither Kidman's camp nor Disney have confirmed any deal negotiations.
''The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,'' the first of seven projected ''Narnia'' films based on C.S. Lewis' bestselling novels, takes place in a land under a spell of perpetual winter (but no Christmas!), cast by the evil White Witch. The tall, pale Oscar winner would certainly fit the role; for one thing, it would be her third witch, after her ''Practical Magic'' sorceress and her upcoming turn as Samantha Stevens in the big screen version of ''Bewitched.'' Of course, that movie is filming this summer, at the same time that ''Lion'' is supposed to go before the cameras. But maybe Kidman has enough magical powers to be in two places at once.
